Newsflash

Criminals need very little information to steal your identity. With your Social Security number they can apply for credit cards, cellular phones, loans, bank accounts, apartments and utility accounts.
Garbages hold a plethora of information. Once your Social Security number or an account number hits the Dumpster, your identity is floating among the refuse, just waiting to be stolen. Shredding is a minimal inconvenience and minor expense compared to its alternative -- becoming an identity theft victim.

Document Destruction, Inc. Services

DDI is a service based primarily on security by destroying sensitive data. DDI is bonded and insured for the specific services provided. As a member of NAID, DDI follows the guidelines set forth regarding data destruction. For more information log onto the NAID website, www.naidonline.org . DDI is also a member of The Better Business Bureau.

Equipment and Maintenance

The services provided by DDI include secure containers that are placed on-site for the sole purpose of storing data to be destroyed and remains the property of DDI. No data will be taken that is not placed in the security containers without the presence of a representative for the service user or a pre-determined agreement with DDI management. The care of the containers on-site is the responsibility of the service user. Lost or damaged containers and or parts due to "other than normal" wear, may be subject to charges to the end user. DDI will maintain the containers as part of its services to the user, due to wear from normal usage. It is up to the user to report any defects or damage of the containers to the DDI staff, when repairs are needed.

Container Tip: The most frequent and most avoidable damage that occurs to containers is over-loading, which can result in structure failure. Over-loaded containers can also make it possible for documents to be accessible, by pushing documents near the deposit opening.

Destruction of Paper and Other Items

DDI destroys paper and other goods, provided by the customer pre-sorts the following items:

CD's
Cellophane Overheads
Plastic-based Blueprints
Plastic Cards (such as ID badges and teller cards)
Floppy disks
Microfiche
Microfilm
Pill Bottles (minimal charges may occur)

Scheduling Regular and Extra Pick-ups

DDI prides itself on high-quality service and is very open to working with the customer to adjust and tailor a system that will fit each customer's needs. Regular scheduled pick-ups will be arranged with the customer. In cases where containers can, and do become full before the next scheduled pick-up, customers may call DDI for a non-scheduled pick-up. Extra pick-ups will result in additional fees to the customer, based on the location and frequency.

Billing Cycles

Statements for billing are mailed on the 15th of the following month that the service is provided. These statements will reflect an itemized breakdown of the services provided for the previous month and it is recommended that users of the service review these listed items to determine the accuracy of each statement. Scheduled pick-ups are based on a cycle that follows four week or two week intervals and may be referred to as monthy or bi-monthly. On occasion, services may have an additional pick-up on longer months and will reflect on the following month's statement, due to 28 day or 14 day cycles, and depending on what frequency the user is set-up for.

Certificates of Destruction

A Certificate of Destruction will be dated for the day that the service has occurred. These certificates are documents that give proof of consistent practice that destruction services are being performed on a re-occurring schedule, and does not, by any means, relieve the user of total responsibility of their data generated by that facility. It does give the user a tracking device to be able to show the reasonable practice of data destruction. DDI can confirm that the service is provided to a user's facility, along with invoice statements to build a foundation of reasonable practice. Although DDI can confirm a record of service use, it is not able to prove that the content of data destroyed for the fact that omitted or included data is not reviewed by the staff of DDI under the confidential agreement terms. As a user, be assured that this system of documenting data destruction is a standard that gives support to any review that comes with handling sensitive data.
